One week at summer camp can and does change lives. When asked about her memories from camp, a past camper responded with: “I won a best camper award. To this day, I don’t know why they picked me, but I remember crying. It was the first time I ever really felt liked by my peers. I had only one or two friends at school, but I was friends with everyone at camp. I was one of the oldest campers that year and the kids called me mom. It was great to be looked up to like that. I remember them all cheering when I won that award. I got a small trophy. I still have it. That was 28 years ago.”
